The 20-year-old creative midfielder has been the outstanding player for Newell’s Old Boys this season.
Newell’s Old Boys have confirmed that Nicolás Castro has signed a new contract extension to stay at the club until 2023.
The midfielder, who was born in November 2000, is having a breakthrough season at the club having scored 4 goals and made 5 assists in 11 starts.
Castro joined the Newell’s youth academy in 2017 after being spotted by scouts in the town of Rafaela. After a period of development at the Jorge Griffa Training Centre, he made his first team debut in October 2019 and has become a starter under manager Fernando Gamboa in 2021.
Commenting on his contract extension, Castro said: “I am grateful to the club, the coaching staff and the leaders for the trust they gave me from the beginning. Also with my family who always encouraged me, especially my wife and my son. Finally, thank my colleagues for the support they always give”.
Director of Football at Newell’s Old Boys Lucas Bernardi said: “For the club it is a great joy to have youth footballers who come through the academy to play in the first division, it is part of our task and intention to promote this path. Nicolás is going through a very interesting time and we hope that he can continue to grow in our institution”.
