Newell’s Old Boys suffered a first home loss of the season, going down to Atlético Tucumán on Monday afternoon at the Estadio Marcelo Bielsa.
Newell’s dominated the game, having the lion’s share of possession and chances, but as we’ve seen before, hesitancy and individual lapses of concentration in defence proved fatal.
Ignacio Scocco’s superb equaliser in the second-half, after Franco Mussis’ deflected shot had put El Decano ahead, was a moment to remember but Newell’s couldn’t find another goal. A scrappy winner from Lotti, with just minutes remaining, felt like punishment for not being more clinical in attack.
After a positive start to the season, that’s now four games without a win for Fernando Gamboa.
