The Uruguayan right-back was a first-team regular last season.
Newell’s Old Boys have announced that the club has come to a mutual agreement with defender Ángelo Gabrielli to terminate his contract.
A compensation deal of $155,000 has been agreed.
Gabrielli signed for Newell’s from Liverpool FC (Uruguay) in January 2019 and played 25 times, scoring twice.
He also provided three assists and was a regular starter under manager Frank Kudelka.
The news will come as a surprise to Newell’s fans as there were no signs or reports that he was not in the manager’s plans for next season.
It’s a boost to Newell’s academy product Facundo Nadalín who was in direct competition with Gabrielli for the right-back spot in the team. Unless a replacement is brought in, Nadalín has cemented his place as the first-choice right-back for 2021 with back-up being provided by Manuel Llano who has also featured in that position under Kudelka.
