The Colombian international previously played for Javier Sanguinetti at Banfield.
25-year-old Colombian goalkeeper Iván Arboleda has joined Newell’s on-loan from Spanish side Rayo Vallecano until the end of the year. Arboleda was a mainstay between the posts for fellow Liga AFA side Banfield between 2014 and 2021 but he has failed to make the breakthrough in La Liga since joining newly promoted Rayo in September.
He will go straight in as his former manager Javier Sanguinetti’s new number one at Newell’s with the squad severely short on goalkeepers. Former first-choice keeper Alan Aguerre has been told he can leave the club, Williams Barlasina is gone on-loan to Club Agropecuario while Ramiro Macagno is still recovering from a long-term injury.
Arboleda has one cap for Colombia, having started as his country’s goalkeeper in a 2-1 defeat to South Korea in March 2019 with Tottenham’s Son Heung-min on the scoresheet in the first-half.
Arboleda’s loan contract with Newell’s will run until December 2022.
Welcome to Newell’s, Iván!
