Newell’s Old Boys launch new retro-look away shirt for 2021-22

Like the new home shirt, the away number is also a tribute to the club’s title win in 1991 under Marcelo Bielsa.

Newell’s Old Boys’ new official away shirt for the 2021-22 season has been launched. The white shirt, made by Umbro, is a tribute shirt to the Newell’s side of 1991 who won the Argentine Championship at La Bombonera. This year’s home shirt also pays tribute to that squad.

The shirt is a retro throwback to the Yamaha away shirt worn by Newell’s in the early 90s and features diagonal red and black stripes descending from the shoulder towards the breast. Unlike the home shirt, the classic Umbro diamond icon sits above the Newell’s badge, in the centre of the shirt.

Towards the bottom of the shirt, it features a number of slogans: “En homenaje a la gesta del 91” (A homage to the deed of 91) and “Sangre Leprosa” (Leper Blood).

The shirt can be viewed in a number of images below.

It’s now available to buy on this website, from the Newell’s Carajo Shop.

While Newell’s Old Boys wore a front sponsor (“Adelante”) in their opening league game of the new Liga AFA 2021 season, it is believed that the new shirts will be sold to fans without the sponsor.
