Manager-less Newell’s Old Boys lost for a 9th time this season, going down to newly-promoted Sarmiento in Junín.
Sarmiento secured the win with a header in each half from Jonathan Torres and Luciano Gondou. Maxi Comba pulled one back with a rebound on 54 minutes but it was a weak performance overall. Caretaker manager Adrián Taffarel took Ignacio Scocco off after he contributed to the Newell’s goal and made a number of bewildering changes, including playing Nicolás Castro as a striker.
The pressure is now on the new Newell’s Old Boys leadership team, headed up by Ignacio Astore, to take action as the team falls further down the league table and promedios standings.
