Newell’s Old Boys suffered a two-goal defeat to Defensa y Justicia in the Liga AFA on Wednesday afternoon.
It means that Fernando Gamboa’s side are yet to score a goal away from home, despite a strong start to the season in terms of home form.
The Newell’s manager made four changes to the side who drew 1-1 with Rosario Central on Sunday, resting the likes of Juan Sforza and Pablo Pérez. Pablo Sabbag, starting for the first time in a rojinegro shirt, played as the centre-forward and should have put Newell’s ahead in the first-half but his free header from close range was directed wide.
Newell’s played well at times in the opening period but two lapses of concentration in the second-half allowed Defensa y Justicia to take control. Former Newell’s player Gabriel Hachen opened the scoring after a defensive mistake and later, with 15 minutes to go, Francisco Pizzini sealed it for the home team after a second error in the Newell’s backline.
