Newell’s Old Boys rounded off the Liga AFA season with a draw against league runners-up Talleres with both teams ending the game with 10 men.
Both of the game’s goals were scored in the first-half with a Djorkaeff Reasco penalty cancelling out Rodrigo Garro’s early opener.
Gabriel Heinze decided to play a youthful second-string side with a big Copa Sudamericana game against Corinthians on the horizon. The youthful exuberance of players like Guillermo Balzi and debutant Ian Glavinovich helped La Lepra dominate possession and create a number of chances. Subtitute Jeremías Pérez Tica should have scored at least twice but his finishing was lacking on the night.
After Lucas Suárez was dismissed for a second yellow in the second half, Leonel Vangioni received a straight red for Newell’s in injury-time for a dangerous tackle.
With the result of this game and other games in the final game week, it was confirmed that Newell’s Old Boys finished in a mid-table position of 14th amongst the Liga AFA’s 28 teams.
