Newell’s Old Boys struggled away from home once again in the Liga AFA with a drab performance away at Belgrano on Saturday night.
Manager Gabriel Heinze reverted to the 3-5-2 formation that was effective against Racing but it smothered the Lepers of any attacking impetus in this game. After a poor first half in which the home side took the lead through a brilliant Pablo Vegetti volley, Heinze abandoned the original plan for the second half, removing Guillermo Ortiz in favour of midfielder Marcos Portillo.
Things did improve for Newell’s with Jeremías Pérez Tica going closest to an equaliser but overall it was another disappointing performance away from home.
Newell’s have now only scored 1 goal in the last 5 outings in the league and the lack of a goalscorer in the squad is clearly starting to hurt the team’s campaign.
