Newell’s Old Boys continued to struggle in the league with a scoreless draw at the Estadio Marcelo Bielsa on Friday night against Argentinos Juniors.
In a match low on quality, both teams cancelled each other out, showing little attacking prowess while it was Lucas Hoyos of Newell’s who was the busier of both goalkeepers, making a number of saves to cement his clean-sheet.
The Newell’s front three of Sordo, Recalde and Reasco were ineffective with Reasco making the lowest touches of the 22 players on the pitch within the 65 minutes that he played. Recalde perhaps had the best chance for La Lepra but knew nothing about Pittón’s cross in the 21st minute and his last minute attempt to meet it resulted in a shinned ricochet that went wide from a good position.
Newell’s now have only scored 1 goal in the last 6 matches in the league and something needs to change up front if Gabriel Heinze is going to put an end to the drought.
