Highlights: Newell’s 3-0 Blooming

Newell’s Old Boys made it two wins from two in a comfortable three-goal victory over Bolivian side Blooming in the Copa Sudamericana on Tuesday night.

Manager Gabriel Heinze made 8 changes from the team that lost 0-1 to River Plate on Sunday with just Lucas Hoyos, Juan Sforza and Gustavo Velázquez remaining.

Against weaker opposition, Newell’s controlled the game throughout and had a two-goal advantage at half-time. Midfielder Marcos Portillo opened the scoring before the half an hour mark after being put through by lone striker Djorkaeff Reasco who had seized on a Blooming mistake in midfield. Portillo made no mistake, bursting through to fire past Gutíerrez in the Blooming net.

Just before half-time, Reasco got on the scoresheet himself, blasting an impressive shot into the corner from the edge of the box after the ball fell kindly for the strike.

Portillo grabbed his second of the match and wrapped a fine win up for Newell’s with another hit from outside the box on 62 minutes.

Newell’s now top Group E in the Copa Sudamericana with the maximum points after two games played. Next up in the competition is a home game against Brazilian side Santos on the 3rd of May.
