The on-loan Atlanta United defender is facing around 3 months out.
Newell’s Old Boys have confirmed that new signing Franco Escobar, who returned to the club last week from Atlanta United, suffered a broken 5th metatarsal (foot) injury in training on Tuesday.
He will undergo surgery to repair the fracture over the next few days.
In professional football, a broken metatarsal injury normally requires a recovery period of 8-12 weeks.
In a best case scenario, Escobar may be back in time for Matchday 1 or 2 of the Copa Sudamericana in late April.
In a worst case scenario, he could miss the Clásico Rosarino on 2 May and not make his debut until Matchday 3 of the Copa Sudamericana in mid-May.
It’s a terrible blow for Escobar and his most serious injury since he missed 7 games for Atlanta United with a broken collarbone in early 2019.
