Colombian defender Willer Ditta joins Newell’s

The 23-year-old signs for La Lepra on loan from Junior

Newell’s Old Boys have confirmed the signing of Colombian centre-back Willer Ditta from Barranquilla club Junior. Ditta, who has played 115 times and scored 2 goals since making his debut in 2017, becomes Javier Sanguinetti’s third signing of the window after Armando Méndez and Leonel Vangioni.

The 23-year-old, who turns 24 next week, has experience playing in the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana with Junior and has won four titles in the last four years. Junior have been one of the most successful clubs in Colombia since Ditta made his breakthrough into the first team.

The deal to bring Ditta to Rosario is a free loan deal with an option to purchase 80% of his contract for $700,000 USD. Speaking after signing his contract and passing his medical at the Jorge Griffa Training Centre, the former Colombia U23 international said: “I am happy and very excited to be here, Newell’s is a very important club and with a very nice fanbase, I know that there will be new challenges for me and I want to represent the colours in the best way”. He also commented on his physical condition by saying “I come fit and prepared because I entered preseason on January 3rd, so I’m in the rhythm of training and I want to be available to the coaching staff as soon as possible. I’m usually a left-sided centre back but I can play on both sides”. He will join training on Tuesday for the first time.

Welcome to the biggest club outside the capital, Willer!
