The 24-year-old defender has signed on a free transfer. He was previously owned by Aldosivi and played on-loan at Platense in the Primera B Nacional last season.
Manuel Capasso becomes the third signing of Newell’s manager Frank Kudelka ahead of the 20/21 season which will finally commence on 30 October.
Having sent Stefano Callegari out on loan to the club that Capusso played with recently, Kudelka was looking to add depth to the Newell’s defence which has been weakened by the departure of Cristian Lema.
Capasso certainly shares some traits with Lema and is a goalscoring threat from set pieces:
He started his career in the third-tier of Argentine football at Club Atlético Acassuso before moving to Defensa y Justicia and then, Aldosivi. Failing to make the first-team at Aldosivi, he was sent on loan to Platense in 2019, where he impressed in the number 2 shirt, playing 16 times and scoring 2 goals.
The deal to bring Capasso to Newell’s sees him come to Rosario on a free transfer with the Rojinegro acquiring 50% of his contract rights. He has signed until December 2022 and could make his debut in a friendly on Friday 16 October against Unión.
Manuel, welcome to the famous Newell’s Old Boys!
