Welcome to our round-up for the Gameweek ending 24 August 2020.

Lepers Abroad refers to the performances of ex-Newell’s players and coaches, along with well-known fans of Newell’s Old Boys, who now ply their trade outside of Argentina.


UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Mauro Icardi was an unused substitute in PSG’s Champions League Semi-Final win over RB Leipzig (0-3) and in their final defeat to Bayern Munich (0-1).


UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE

Éver Banega won his third Europa League in his final game for Sevilla, assisting the Spanish team’s second goal scored by Luuk de Jong in their 3-2 victory over Inter in Cologne.

Banega was exquisite as the Europa League competition entered its final rounds. He will now continue his career in Saudi Arabia with Al-Shabab.


RUSSIA

Ezequiel Ponce headed a fine goal from a corner in Spartak’s 1-1 draw with FC Ufa on 19 August (below). On 23 August, he went off injured after 59 minutes as Spartak won the Moscow Derby, beating Lokomotiv 2-1.

FRANCE

Cristian Battocchio came off after 67 minutes in Brest’s disappointing 4-0 defeat away to Nîmes on the opening day of the new Ligue 1 season.


UNITED STATES

Milton Valenzuela grabbed an assist in Columbus Crew’s 3-0 win over Chicago Fire, setting up Derrick Etienne for the opener.

Franco Escobar played a full 90 minutes as part of a defensive three in Atalanta United’s 2-0 win over Nashville SC.


ECUADOR

Victor Figueroa helped his side Aucus to two wins last week. On 19 August, he scored the opener in a 2-0 win over El Nacional with a dinked finish (below) while on 23 August he played the full game as Aucus claimed victory of LDU de Quito in the Superclásico de Quito (also 2-0).

Francisco Fydriszewski had a fine week with his side LDU Portoviejo in the LigaPro Serie A. On 18 August, he provided an assist in a 1-1 draw away at Orense SC. Four days later on 22 August, he scored the opener in Portoviejo’s 3-1 victory over Guayaquil City.
