Highlights: Newell’s 2-0 Boca Juniors

Newell’s recorded a remarkable win over top-of-the-table Boca Juniors on Sunday afternoon with just 10 men on the field of play for the whole of the second-half.

In the last home game of the season, The Lepers put the brakes on Boca’s title charge by putting in an incredible second-half performance to score twice despite being a man down.

Juan Sforza saw red in the first-half for a second bookable offence. Referee Patricio Loustau judged that both of his only two fouls were yellow card offences and Newell’s, who had looked the better side in the opening 40 minutes, were left to play the majority of the match a man down.

That didn’t stop Adrián Coria’s troops.

Coming out for the second half against a Boca side hunting for another league championship, Newell’s took the lead within a minute when Juan Manuel García took advantage of Luis Advíncula’s poor pass to race into the box and smash the ball beyond keeper Agustín Rossi.

Boca piled on the pressure but were weak in attack and the defensive trio of Lema, Ditta and Velázquez could not be breached.

The victory was sealed with 10 minutes to go when the outstanding Willer Ditta rose high to head in a free-kick from the right with the helpless Rossi given no chance.
