Newell’s Old Boys went to the top of the Liga AFA on Friday night after a late Ignacio Scocco goal gave The Lepers all three points against Platense at the Estadio Marcelo Bielsa.
The home side dominated most of the game but a few lapses of concentration in the second half might have seen Platense go ahead.
Goalkeeper Jorge De Olivera had to be at his best to keep out efforts from Scocco and Compagnucci in the first half but he could do nothing about the 86th minute winner when a mistake from a Platense defender allowed Newell’s captain Scocco an easy tap-in from close range just when it looked like the game might end scoreless.
