Newell’s finally broke a 7-game winless streak by taking all 3 points home from Lanús, thus stopping the home side from going to the top of the Liga AFA table.
Nicolás Castro scored his 4th and 5th goals of the season in the first-half, both wonderful strikes, to give La Lepra the lead before José López capitalised on a Facundo Mansilla mistake to grab a goal back for Lanús.
El Granate pushed hard for an equaliser in the second-half but Newell’s held strong, with Alan Aguerre forced to make a string of impressive saves to maintain the lead.
