Fabián Ángel joins Newell’s from Junior F.C

The 21-year-old Colombian midfielder is Javier Sanguinetti’s first signing of the transfer window

Newell’s Old Boys have announced the loan signing of Fabián Ángel from Colombian club Junior. The deal is initially a 1-year loan with a charge of $600,000 but with a purchase option for a further $600,000.

He Sogamoso native arrived in Rosario last Wednesday for a medical and was present with the players for training on Thursday but did not take part in training himself.

Ángel is a full-stack central midfielder with a talent for breaking up opposition attacks. He is capped at U17 and U18 level for the Colombian national team and has recently attracted interest from River Plate.

His decision to come to Newell’s was surely influenced by the presence of his former teammate at Junior, Willer Ditta. Ditta is now one of Newell’s Old Boys’ most important players since joining the club at the start of 2022.

Although not a direct replacement for him, Ángel fills a spot in the midfield vacated by Frankfurt-bound Nicolás Castro. His arrival also means that the quota for foreign players at Newell’s is now at its peak although the rumoured departure of Iván Arboleda, who fills one of those foreign quota spots, is gaining traction.

Welcome to Newell’s, Fabián!
