The 24-year-old defender joins La Lepra from Gimnasia (LP), signing on loan until December 2021.

Young centre-back Manuel Guanini has signed for Newell’s Old Boys on loan becoming the club’s second signing since the 2019-20 season ended.

In a somewhat surprise move, with rumours of interest only emerging in the hours before the loan was confirmed, Guanini joins only the second club of his career.

Since making his debut for Gimnasia y Esgrima (La Plata) in May 2015 against Belgrano, the native of La Plata has played 67 times in the Argentina Superliga for the side currently coached by Diego Maradona.

As Newell’s fans wait to hear if Cristian Lema will return to Rosario for a second season, Guanini’s signing may be seen as a contingency plan in the event that Lema’s partner in defence, Santiago Gentiletti, decides to leave the club having recently hinted that he was considering his options.

Standing 6’1 in height, Guanini lacks the experience of Lema and Gentiletti, both who have played in Europe, but manager Frank Kudelka obviously sees a player that he can both develop and use for first-team cover without any major financial implications.

Included in Guanini’s loan deal is the option for Newell’s to purchase 50% of his contract for $900,000 if the deal works out.

Manuel, best of luck and you’re very welcome to the famous Newell’s Old Boys.
