Welcome to our round-up for the week ending 23 February 2020.

Lepers Abroad refers to the performances of ex-Newell’s players and coaches, along with well-known fans of Newell’s Old Boys, who now ply their trade outside of Argentina.


ENGLAND

Marcelo Bielsa led Leeds United to another 1-0 home win at Elland Road in the EFL Championship, this time against Reading FC. Ex-Newell’s forward Lucas Boyé was injured and not included in the Reading squad.


FRANCE

Mauro Icardi came on as a substitute after 76 minutes in PSG’s 4-3 win over Bordeaux.

Cristian Battocchio played 90 minutes in Stade Brestois’ 2-2 draw with OGC Nice.


ITALY

Cristian Ansaldi played 90 minutes in Torino’s 1-0 away defeat to AC Milan in Serie A. He received a yellow card in the game.

Nehuén Paz was an unused substitute in Lecce’s 4-0 defeat to AS Roma in Serie A.

Enzo Barrenechea came on as a substitute after 71 minutes in Juventus u19s 1-0 win over Pescara u19s.

Nicolás Spolli was an unused substitute in Crotone’s 4-1 win over Pescara in Serie B.


SPAIN

Lionel Messi scored four goals in Barcelona’s 5-0 win over Eibar having not scored for four games previous to this. His goals mean he has now 696 goals and 306 assists in his professional career – the only active player to claim participation in (over) 1000 goals.


NETHERLANDS

Lisandro Martínez played for 90 minutes in Ajax’s 2-0 defeat Getafe in the Europa League. A few days later, he played for 46 minutes before being substituted in Ajax’s 1-0 defeat to Heracles in the Eredivisie.


GREECE

Joaquín Torres came off the bench after 46 minutes in NFC Volos’ 0-0 draw with AE Larisa.

Daniel Mancini came on as a substitute after 79 minutes in Aris Thessaloniki’s 2-2 draw away to PAS Lamia 1964.


UNITED STATES

Franco Escobar played for 90 minutes and was yellow carded in Atlanta United’s 1-1 draw away to FC Motagua from Honduras in the CONCACAF Champions League.

Maxi Urruti came on as a substitute after 28 minutes for Montreal Impact in their 2-2 draw with Deportivo Saprissa in the CONCACAF Champions League.


ECUADOR

Francisco Fydriszewski made it 2 goals in 2 games for LDU Portoviejo. He scored in their 2-1 defeat to El Nacional and again provided a consolation goal in their 2-4 home defeat to Deportivo Cuenca.

Victor Figueroa made an assist in Aucas’ 2-1 defeat to Vélez Sarsfield in the Copa Sudamericana.
