Lepers Abroad: Gameweek ending 16 November 2020

Welcome to our round-up for the Gameweek ending 16 November 2020.

Lepers Abroad refers to the performances of ex-Newell’s players and coaches, along with well-known fans of Newell’s Old Boys, who now ply their trade outside of Argentina.

INTERNATIONAL

Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina drew 1-1 against Eduardo Berizzo‘s Paraguay in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers.

For Argentina, Lionel Messi played the full match. Lisandro Martínez did not make the squad despite being called up to join Argentina.

Tata Martino’s Mexico earned a 3-2 win over South Korea in an international friendly.

Luis Leal started and played for a full 90 minutes for São Tomé and Príncipe who lost 2-0 to South Africa in a qualifier for the Africa Cup of Nations.

ECUADOR

Former Newell’s teammates Francisco Fydriszewski and Braian Rivero faced off as Polaco’s LDU Portoviejo pulled off a shock 2-3 away win against Rivero’s Independiente del Valle.

Fydriszewski opened the scoring for LDU in the first-half making it 0-1 after 41 minutes. Rivero started for IDV but was replaced after 56 minutes.

Victor Figueroa provided an assist for Jhonny Quinonez in Aucas’ sole goal in their disappointing 1-4 Superclásico de Quito defeat to LDU de Quito. He was replaced after 70 minutes.
