UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Lionel Messi put in an outstanding performance in Barcelona’s 3-1 win over Napoli to reach the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League. He scored a stunning individual goal (below) before winning a penalty towards the end of the first-half which Luis Suárez converted.
UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE
Éver Banega was the man of the match in Sevilla’s 2-0 win over AS Roma on 6 August. Banega provided an assist for Sevilla’s opener and was without doubt the best player on the pitch. His Sevilla career will now be extended to take in the Europa League Quarter Finals (vs Wolves) as he plays out his final games for the Spanish side before joining Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia.
RUSSIA
Ezequiel Ponce came on as a substitute after 54 minutes in Spartak Moscow’s 2-2 draw with Sochi as action resumed in the Russian Premier Liga.
NETHERLANDS
Lisandro Martínez saw some pre-season action for his club Ajax. He played the first-half in a big 6-1 win over RKC Waalwijk.
