Lepers Abroad: Gameweek ending 10 August

Messi put in a majestic performance against Napoli as the Champions League resumed

Welcome to our round-up for the Gameweek ending 10 August 2020.

Lepers Abroad refers to the performances of ex-Newell’s players and coaches, along with well-known fans of Newell’s Old Boys, who now ply their trade outside of Argentina.

Lionel Messi put in an outstanding performance in Barcelona’s 3-1 win over Napoli to reach the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League. He scored a stunning individual goal (below) before winning a penalty towards the end of the first-half which Luis Suárez converted.

Éver Banega was the man of the match in Sevilla’s 2-0 win over AS Roma on 6 August. Banega provided an assist for Sevilla’s opener and was without doubt the best player on the pitch. His Sevilla career will now be extended to take in the Europa League Quarter Finals (vs Wolves) as he plays out his final games for the Spanish side before joining Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia.

Ezequiel Ponce came on as a substitute after 54 minutes in Spartak Moscow’s 2-2 draw with Sochi as action resumed in the Russian Premier Liga.

Lisandro Martínez saw some pre-season action for his club Ajax. He played the first-half in a big 6-1 win over RKC Waalwijk.
