A real lacklustre performance saw Newell’s beaten by newly-promoted Instituto at the Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes in Córdoba on Sunday night.
Two first-half goals from Santiago Rodríguez and Adrian Martínez, owing to defensive and goalkeeping errors, gave the home side a two-goal advantage at half-time. Facundo Mansilla gave away a penalty in the second-half which Gastón Lodico converted to give Instituto a greater lead. Bruno Pittón’s consolation was not enough and Instituto had the ball in the net for a fourth time a short while later only for VAR to overrule the goal.
