Newell’s Old Boys managed to grab a draw at Huracán on Friday night despite playing most of the second-half with only 10 men.
Jorge Recalde opened the scoring for La Lepra with his fourth goal in 6 games with a first-half header but Walter Mazzannti netted an equaliser just before half-time with a flying volley.
Ángelo Martino’s dismissal for a second booking just seconds into the second period changed the game completely but Newell’s dug deep to hold onto a point. Goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos was the hero, saving a penalty from Santiago Hezze in the 86th minute to keep it one-goal apiece.
There were angry scenes at the final whistle as Newell’s players surrounded the referee and midfielder Juan Sforza was also shown a red card after the match had finished.
