Franco Escobar sold to LAFC

The on-loan Newell’s defender was transferred from his parent club Atlanta United to the Los Angeles club.

Franco Escobar, who has been on loan at Newell’s from Atlanta United for most of 2021, has signed permanently for LAFC of the MLS.

His parent club announced the signing on Sunday, stating that the transfer is worth up to $600,000.

Escobar has been limited to just 7 appearances for Newell’s in 2021 after fracturing his foot in training within weeks of returning to the club where he made his professional debut.

Escobar is a former MLS Cup winner (2018) and will now play with the Mexican Carlos Vela in Los Angeles. LAFC are currently manager-less after parting ways with Bob Bradley recently. They finished 9th in the MLS Western Conference in 2021.
