Newell's Old Boys
Newell’s legend Maxi Rodríguez is in his third spell at the club. He made his professional debut for Newell’s in 1999 before leaving for a career in Europe which saw him play at Espanyol, Atlético Madrid and Liverpool. He returned to Newell’s in 2012 after leaving Newell’s and helped the club win the Argentine title in 2013. Leaving to join Peñarol of Uruguay, where he won another national title, he returned to Newell’s in January 2019 and was made club captain.
Maxi is currently the joint 2nd top goalscorer in the club’s history with 90 goals. He has made over 250 appearances for the club.
He has been capped 51 times by Argentina, scoring 15 goals.
