Braian Rivero joins Independiente del Valle on loan

24-year-old midfielder Braian Rivero has left Newell’s Old Boys to join Copa Sudamericana champions Independiente del Valle of Ecuador on a loan deal.

The loan deal will last until December 2021. Before the deal was completed, Rivero agreed to sign a new contract at Newell’s Old Boys until 2023.

Independiente del Valle will have the option to buy Rivero at various points, and the value of the deal will depend on when, and if, they decide to exercise this option.

The club, who are based in the Sangolquí suburb of the Ecuadorian capital Quito, will pay $1.4 million if they decide to buy Rivero in June 2021, $1.5 million if they decide to buy him in December 2021 or $1.7 million if they decide that they want to extend the loan for an extra six months and then buy him after it expires.

Newell’s see the loan deal as a good move for Rivero as he will get experience playing in the Copa Libertadores with IDV. Despite his potential and bright talent, he has found it hard to nail down a place in the starting team at El Coloso Del Parque, especially with the recent emergence of Jerónimo Cacciabue, Aníbal Moreno and the return of the veteran Pablo Pérez.

We’ll be keeping a keen eye on how Rivero does in Ecuador.

Best of luck, Braian!
